Season 4 of Agents of SHIELD is finally here, It debuted last night September 20th and it did not disappoint. One of the major criticisms that I have seen about AoS is that they have lacked in having actual super hero involvement with the cast, well prepare for that to change. Ghost Rider is here and he is amazing! Here is a brief (and incomplete) recap of what happened followed by my personal opinion of the episode.

aos-600x378 First I will give you a little information where everyone form the team, as we last saw the, stands. This season picks up roughly where last season left off, after the six month jump, Daisy is still on the run from S.H.I.E.L.D. after the death of Lincoln, and is hunting down a group of home grown terrorists known as The Watchdogs, who were introduced last season as a hate group that was going around hunting down Inhumans. New partners Agent Coulson and Mack are still trying to look for Daisy, or as the papers are calling her “Quake”, while keeping a low profile with the new director of S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent May has become the head of the SHIELD tactical unit, while Fitz is still doing what he has always done making cool new toys for the field agents and overall just being the best human ever. One of the biggest team changes is that Simmons is now an ad visor to the new director and has taken more of a leadership role.

shield-ghost-riderAs a brief example of how the episode starts out. we find Daisy tracking down a van that she believes is involved in an arms deal in Los Angeles, she stops the car and confronts the criminals, who in turn ask for her help. They say that they are being hunted and they have been “Burned by the Rider”. It is now that we see a black 69′ Charger show up at the end of the road rev its engine then roar towards the criminals. The car ignites, classic Ghost Rider style, and takes out the criminals. The only hint that Daisy can see of the man in the car is a flaming head as he drags one back to the car.

The people over at ABC have been saying that this new season of AoS is supposed to be edgier due to its new time slot. You can see the that they are pushing it a little bit by showing Daisy suit up then follow that up with fire and blood splatter from Ghost Rider, all in the first few minutes. But after that to me it just felt like all of the other episodes of AoS,  not saying that is bad just the same. I absolutely love the effects that they did in this episode, especially with Ghost Rider, there is a transformation scene that is amazing. After seeing what they do with Robbie Reyes I feel that he is the perfect fit in this TV universe, he does not feel forced at all. Another thing that I am excited to see moving on is how they are going to address the supernatural aspect of not only Ghost Rider, but also what ever was in that box that has people seeing what looks like ghosts. Lastly I love the not in charge Agent Coulson, he has more of his humor and he really is best suited for that role. But speaking of suits, Agent Coulson needs to be put back in his, to me its as much a part of his character as Captain America’s shield is to his. In closing I cannot wait for next weeks episode and what we have coming up for the rest of the season!
